DEPARTMENT SHINES AT NATIONAL CONVENTION!

Over 45 members of the VFW Department of New Mexico and its Ladies Auxiliary attended the 108th VFW National Convention held August 17th – 23rd in Kansas City, Missouri. As a TEAM, the “New Mexico Delegation” attended the National Banquet on Monday night, participated in the Patriotic Rally on Tuesday, attended State Commander B.J. Lawrence’s no host party on Tuesday night, and gave away peanuts and pistachios at the New Mexico Booth during the All-Conference Reception on Wednesday night. State Commander Lawrence commended the entire delegation for coming together as a Team and volunteering their time to ensure that the Department of New Mexico was well represented and set the standard for other Departments to follow!

MEMBERSHIP DRIVES WORK!

On July 13th, 2007; State Commander B.J. Lawrence and State Chief-of-Staff Terry Benson conducted a membership drive at the Holloman Air Force Base. The Drive was conducted on behalf of Post 7686 and was held at the Base Exchange store. A recruiting table and eligibility poster was set-up at 11:00 a.m. and membership recruiting was conducted for approximately two hours.

Many active duty Men and woman stopped by the recruiting table on their way in and out of the store. The military personnel asked questions which ranged from eligibility requirements to the various programs the VFW sponsors. During the two hour recruitment period, Comrades Lawrence and Benson were able to recruit 31 new members into the VFW! At least once every quarter, Post 7686 offers a one year paid membership to eligible, active duty Military Personnel. This is a great example that Membership Drives do work!
